Banking in Ghana

Best banks in Ghana for expats & digital nomads

Opening a bank account is one of the first things you do after moving to Ghana. Here are the accounts that work for newcomers and non-residents, plus the fintech we would set up before you fly.

How to open a bank account in Ghana

A foreigner with a valid residence/work permit can open a standard cedi current or savings account (passport + visa + permit + proof of address); without a residence permit, non-residents are generally limited to foreign-currency (USD/EUR/GBP) accounts at select banks like Ecobank and GCB. Mobile money (MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash) is set up separately with a passport and SIM and is widely used for daily payments.
