Banking in Honduras

Best banks in Honduras for expats & digital nomads

Opening a bank account is one of the first things you do after moving to Honduras. Here are the accounts that work for newcomers and non-residents, plus the fintech we would set up before you fly.

How to open a bank account in Honduras

Accounts are almost always opened in person, and a newcomer typically needs a valid passport, an RTN (local tax ID), proof of address, residency card or visa status, an initial deposit (roughly $100-500), and often a reference letter from a home-country bank; both lempira (HNL) and USD accounts are widely available. Banco Azteca is an exception that will open a basic account for a foreigner with just a valid stamped passport, while AML checks at most banks mean processing can take 1-4 weeks.
