How to open a bank account in Nicaragua

Foreigners can open personal accounts (USD and córdoba are both common), but non-residents face more scrutiny and many banks strongly prefer or require legal residency. Accounts are opened in person at a branch with a passport, proof of address, a home-country bank reference and an initial deposit; note that several international banks (e.g. HSBC, Scotiabank, Citi retail) have exited Nicaragua, and FATCA reporting applies to US citizens.
