Banking in Sri Lanka
Best banks in Sri Lanka for expats & digital nomads
Opening a bank account is one of the first things you do after moving to Sri Lanka. Here are the accounts that work for newcomers and non-residents, plus the fintech we would set up before you fly.
How to open a bank account in Sri Lanka
A non-national resident in or visiting Sri Lanka can open a Personal Foreign Currency Account (PFCA) at any authorised dealer bank with a passport and visa; these can only be funded from foreign currency brought in or inward remittances, not from local rupees. A standard rupee resident account generally requires residence status, proof of local address and often a work-related visa.
