Countries with no corporate tax: frequently asked questions

Which countries have no corporate tax?

The Cayman Islands, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Bahamas and several other island jurisdictions charge 0%, as do parts of the United Arab Emirates through its free zones, along with a handful of others.

Is it legal to base a company in a no-tax country?

Yes, as long as you follow the rules in your own country on controlled foreign companies, place of management and reporting. Structuring a business offshore is legal, but hiding profits from your home tax authority is not.

What is the global minimum corporate tax?

It is an OECD-backed rule that large multinational groups pay an effective rate of at least 15% wherever they operate. It targets big companies, so most small businesses and individuals are not affected.

Does no corporate tax mean no tax at all?

No. A country with 0% corporate tax may still charge VAT, payroll taxes, licence fees or personal tax on what owners take out. The company profit is untaxed, not the whole chain.
